Carolyn Amon
Vice President, Trade and Energy
Carolyn Amon is the vice president for trade and energy at IAS Group. Ms. Amon focuses on issues that lie at the nexus of international trade and energy policies, including manufacturing competitiveness, carbon markets and tax policy. She closely tracks U.S. trade data and regulations, and has contributed to legal briefs for International Trade Commission hearings on antidumping and countervailing duties. She also analyzes developments in the European Union, American, Chinese, and Russian steel industries and energy markets. She has drafted multiple IAS briefing books for industry study missions to China as well as a series of studies on energy investment opportunities in emerging markets. She has chief responsibility for preparations for an executive study mission to China on the electric vehicle sector.
Ms. Amon is creative editor for the Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment webzine and is active in local chapters of the Electric Auto Association, League of Women Voters, and Sierra Club, where she serves on the conservation committee and is spearheading an electric vehicle initiative.
Ms. Amon earned an M.A. with honours in European studies from the University of Sciences Po in Paris, the University of Siena and the University of Bath. She received her B.A. summa cum laude and graduated phi beta kappa, from the Elliot School of International Affairs at the George Washington University. She studied as well at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the Herzen University in St Petersburg. She is fluent in English, French, Russian, Polish, and Italian, and is currently learning Chinese. She has edited and translated articles from French to English that have been published in books, scholarly journals, and leading newspapers such as the Financial Times. She has also designed and published several websites and is proficient in the Mac and Adobe web suites.
